Who we are
A grassroots movement powered by girls, for girls.
Girl Up Initiative Uganda (GUIU) was founded in 2013 by young Ugandan women who saw firsthand how adolescent girls in Kampala's under-resourced communities were being left behind. Today we're a growing team of Ugandan educators, mentors, and program leaders reaching thousands of girls each year.
Our Mission
To build a vibrant movement of girls and young women in Uganda who are equipped with the confidence, knowledge, skills, and networks to lead healthy, self-determined lives and to transform their communities.
Our Vision
A Uganda — and a world — where every girl has the power, resources, and freedom to shape her own future.
What guides our work
Girl-Centered
Girls are at the heart of every decision we make, from program design to leadership.
Community-Rooted
We build with — not for — the communities we serve, and our team is local.
Movement-Building
Individual empowerment scales only when it connects into a network of peers and allies.
Transparent & Accountable
We publish our results and share our lessons openly, every year.
Meet the people behind the movement
Our team, board, and Girls Advisory Council make everything you see here possible.
